Etc light flashing

Asked by Marcy Jun 25, 2018 at 07:49 AM about the 2012 Dodge Avenger SE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2012 dodge avenger se has started
having problems. The etc light will start
flashing and goes into limp mode. If I turn off
the traction control it still feels like it's not at
full power but I can drive it without it stalling
or any warning lights coming on. It's a 2.4l, I
just replaced the spark plugs and the
crankshaft position sensor and also took the
throttle body out and cleaned it. What could
the problem be?

On most of them you need to reset the throttle body after it's been removed. Usually need a scan tool to do that but could Google it to make sure

If you have the bolt and traction lights on simultaneously, does it stall out? If so you need to replace the throttle position sensor. The problem is you may not find it. (just that part) It's an OEM only dealer restricted part so you'd have to find a used one somewhere. ($9 to $25) If you buy a new throttle body ($97 on rockauto) it is included pre-installed and calibrated. Once you swap out the throttle body, you will have to "re-learn" the values of the new unit as your ECU has already tried to re-map in order to compensate for your current faulty sensor. An ECU reset will do it but that's extreme. You're better off just doing a sensor init and let it learn over 2 hours of collective driving.

Yea dude is right. I’m going through this right now had to get the throttle body replaced. Damn red lightning bolt kept coming on an had to pull over. Would cut off and on and it go away, but over time that trick didn’t work. Had to drop that 700+ at Firestone because my mechanic cousin wasn’t able to do it for me.. had to pay an extra 175 just for a mobile mechanic to come program the sensor! So they change the throttle body but had to pay extra for programming, makes you feel like your scammed but idk what else to do I’m not expert

As a former Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep Auto tech I have seen this issue before several times. Although sometimes a throttle body replacement and program remedies this issue, most of the time the problem will still occur and there is only 1 fix. A replacement of the throttle body harness connector(the one going to the throttle body sensor) and rewiring under Chrysler's new suggested wiring will permanently fix this issue along with reprogramming the TPS sensor. Hope this helps!

drove my 08 avenger 2.4 turned it off about 2 hours later tried to pull out of my driveway couldn't accelerated over 10mph. Engine light and etc came on. Parked it tried to cut it back on it would crank a lot but turn over. Tried to rev the engine and very little rpm. Changed the throttle body, cam and crankshaft( cause of the codes I got). Now car is cranking no start.
