broken hood lock - 2002 chevy venture

Asked by Jun 16, 2012 at 01:38 PM about the 2002 Chevrolet Venture Base Extended

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My hood lock on my 2002 chevy venture is broken.  The hood latch release cable is intact and I have confirmed (by getting underneath the vehicle while someone else pulls on the latch) that it does work, so it is the lock itself that is broken.  Is there any way to release the hood?  I might be able to get at the lock from underneath the vehicle (very difficult), but I don't know how to manipulate the lock to get the hood to release.

With the heel of your hand, smack the front top of the hood, hard, in the area of the latch while your helper pulls the release inside. Once the hood pops, & this may take several smacks, lube the latch with plenty of WD-40 or other good quality lubricant. HTH. -Jim
