chrysler sebring wont stay running

my 2002 sebring wont keep running if jumped it will stop when you remove
the cables what could be the problem?

If the battery light is on while the car is on the jumper pack then the alternator is toast. Also how dead is the battery, cause if it is to dead then the car cant recognize there is a battery and turn off. You have to leave the jumper pack attached until the car charges the battery enough to know it has one.
