Car won't stay started or at an idle

When you started it dies when you put it in gear a
jerk so hard  when driving down the road it cuts out

Sounds like it may be the fuel pump. Change the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure. It should be 9 to 13 lbs. Also the injectors may be so gummed up that they may need replacing.
