A used Cadillac is good if it was well taken care of. Your best bet is to find an older couple or elderly person and just buy it from them. Be willing to pay extra for the peace of mind that comes with knowing everything there is to know about the car's history. Do a VIN check and stay with cars that had only transferred ownership up to 3 or 4 times - anything more will pretty much render the car unlivable. Lower the miles, then the longer you can drive it without additional repairs. Have a mechanic check it if you don't know much about cars. This advice is probably good for any make of car you buy. An uncle of mine drove his Cadillac Cimmaron with 2.5l, 4, for 10 years and 207,999 - his tranny gave out; and that supposedly was one of the 'bad' Caddys.

I bought my 1994 DeVille about 4 years ago, I replaced the rad last year , front end alignment, tie rods and lower ball joints this year, water pump 2 years ago and other than routine stuff like oil, tires, brake pads- that's it. I have driven everything from an Izetta to Mercedes and without a doubt this car is the most reliable, comfortable and cheapest to run (ok - around town gas is horrible but hyway is a dream.)
