A slight sputter / but no check engine light on What could be the problem?

sputters here and there -more so when you are sitting at a light. sometimes i think its fuel other times not sure if its the transmission . no time does the check engine light come on

Try a bottle of dry gas first. There may be water in the gas and this will take it out.

Gas already has ethanol where I live and it's dry here, any other suggestions mine just started doing this
