Engine Shut Off

Asked by GuruW6548 May 24, 2018 at 09:11 AM about the 2011 Toyota Camry SE V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car shuts off decelerating and stopping. It turns back
on afterwards. I have replaced the upstream o2 sensor and
the cam shaft positioning sensor. I had a tune up and oil
change as well. I used the seafoam in my gas tank as well.
What else could it be?

Mileage? When the engine is running...any warning lights on or flashing?

150,000, it's always had the service engine light on. The maintenance required light was on until I got the oil changed.

Ok. The diagnosis usually starts with a scan tool. We need to know what codes are stored in the computers memory. Some auto parts stores do this for free. We also inspect the Throttle Body for coking...carbon...oil deposits.. we then instal a fuel pressue gauge and road test the vehicle with FP gauge and scan tool in place. .Hzving noted all that....consider a trip to that auto parts store for a free scan. Write down the numerical value and descriptions of all codes. Get back with results.

I had advance run it today, he didnt give me the exact code but told me what it meant. He said my timing chain is going bad and that it would be smarter for me to just get rid of my car, because the kit alone got that is over 700.00 and that doesnt include the labor for it.

Whith out the code number and description......I think we need a second opinion.
