Help please 2011 Kia Sorento

Asked by Terrah2012 Mar 27, 2019 at 08:02 PM about the 2011 Kia Sorento EX V6 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I wanted to switch out the stock radio for a new
one. After I took out the stock radio nothing works
unless the smart Key is inserted into the docking
part inside of the arm rest. I am unable to use the
smart key wirelessly at all. Also when I open the
door the lights do not come on it’s as if the car is
dead until the smart key is docked. I’m so lost I
don’t know what to do.

I had to swap motor in my Kia and am having this EXACT same issue. Nothing works on remote, no 'power' to car until you insert key in dock and start it, no radio, no backup camera. I took mine to Kia to have remote reprogrammed and was told I was out of luck and they had no idea had to fix the problem. So we have been using the dock for about a year now because no one can seem to find what's wrong or tell us how to fix it. Aaaaaaand it's a pain in the butt.

I have a 2010 with similar problems. When the car is first turned on the screen is garbage for perhaps 10 minutes, but eventually comes on and works. Also, often the car will not start unless the remote is docked in the console box. Remote will always lock/unlock doors, but almost always, the door handle buttons will not lock/unlock. Appears that the car does not see the remotes. I am thinking I probably need to clean a cable connector but would like to know which one and where it is.... love to hear ideas from others.
