2011 Kia Sorento Radio Issue

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2011 Kia Sorento. Everything was working fine until I switched from
radio to CD. Now the volume control is gone. No matter what I do with the
volume knob, the volume stays the same. Of course it's out of warranty and
the extended warranty I have doesn't cover sound components. The
dealership told me to replace it with a new radio (it has navigation and
backup camera as well) would be $6,000! The vehicle isn't eve worth twice
that so why in the world would I pay $6,000 for a new one. They're checking
into a refurbished one, but are still saying it will be between $700-$1000. I
drive a ton of miles, but will rely on my phone for music if they think I'm going
to pay that kind of money out to fix it. Does anyone know if resetting it would
work? I also read on the Optima site that if you hold down the FM/AM and
Map Voice for 10 seconds it will also do a hard reset. Any ideas? Thanks!

I ran across your post while reading about other 2011 Sorento problems. There were several suggestions about "resetting" the radio. Look on the front panel of the radio for a small hole (supposed to be near the upper right corner). If you find one, straighten out a paper clip, and while the radio is on, press the button under the hole. The radio should turn off, and then reboot (like a computer). If this works, the settings will need to be reset, but it may fix your problem. Worth a try.
