I was noticing in some of the pictures that I saw that most of the LT1 cars have the open space along the front of the hood. Was this an option on the vehicle, or were there several models with and without? Not even sure what it is for. Also, is the SS the only model with the gages above the gear shift?
I don't think any of the early 4th gen LT1 cars came with any type of hood scoop functional or otherwise. I believe it wasn't until 98' when the first LS1 cars came out that you could get a ram air intake. Basically, a thin strip at the front end of the hood that fed cooler air to the engine for more horsepower. What you will find on older cars is a lot of people who bought aftermarket hoods with various types of fake or functional hood scoops and cowl hoods.
