2008 dodge charger cranks for split of secnd then stops!

Asked by K_lipe Jan 06, 2018 at 09:41 PM about the 2008 Dodge Charger SE RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok, I believe I have a electrical issue with my 08
Charger, BUT im no expert and ran out of ideas.. At
first there was a bad rod bearing which was
replaced.. Since reassembling the motor, the car
would not start. It cranks for split of a second then
stops.. I get all powers and everything works..
except that the car does not fully crank and If I keep
trying for a while the starter eventually fries..
checked the crank fly wheel and noticed that the
engine was REALLY hard to turn.. Not surprised
since the oil had metal shards everywhere.. Did a
full engine swap at home.. after all was done, SAME
PROBLEM... I do notice that when I try to start and
get the small crank, all lights go on including the red
security light.. Went ahead and towed the car to
Dodge and had them replace the ignition switch;
they also replaced the keys.. NO LUCK! Dodge is
telling me that the engine (which was replaced) is
seized.. However the engine moved freely when I
checked on the crank wheel.. Can anyone tell me
what the problem could be??? Dodge is giving me
a hard time because they think I am stupid but I
don't think the engine is the problem... Can anyone
help???

These are known for electrical problems as they were wired with total neglect. Sorry for your loss.

enginecreator are you saying that the wiring is bad? should I look into replacing the wiring harness??

Not exactly, its the way its wired into each wired part back threw another part to save on cost of wiring, instead of each its own wire harness, you have to re-engineer the cars wire harness to fix, as there is no way to figure out which part of the harness or its connected parts are bad. Its not as easy as tracing a wire to find a bad one. The boards and modules and internal parts are all one system, instead of many systems working together. Its a money pit. 10 out 10 of dodges finest can not keep them up and going, its cheaper to buy a new car, I know where one is filled with cement in a man's yard used as a ornament or yard art since 2010. I would say good luck but luck is not helping with this cherry of engineering marvel including the engine, it could just as well be the engine but sounds like its not getting a good ground to fry the starter too.

Seriously? Mine has more harnesses than any vehicle I’ve had and nothing is hardwired even through the pcm and cpu mine is harnessed everywhere. Which wiring are you referring to?
