Why is check engine light blinking on 2008 accord only happens on long trips

The check engine light flashes to warn you that the catalytic converter is in danger. Generally a miss fire causes this because the raw fuel will severely overheat the converter causing it to melt and become useless and sometimes colgging the exhaust. Take it to a shop and have diagnosed.
