Why is my car not starting

I bought my 2008 dodge caliber se 2months ago
and my battery light came on and went off and my
check engine light came on as well. When I was
driving home from work all my lights came on in
my car then I notice my car trying to cut off and
started to crazy I pull over and waiting when I tried
to cut my car on it wouldn't start, I have a feeling I
need a new alternator or is it something else, can
anyone please help me figure out the problem.
