sometimes will not start, but if you wait a while it will start

Asked by Ed Jan 26, 2014 at 03:17 PM about the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country Limited FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have a 2008 chrysler town & country .   Sometimes it turn barely turn like a half a
turn.   Then if you wait awhile and this very's as well it will start.  The battery has been
tested and is good.  The alternator has been tested and is good.  The starter has been
tested and replaced and is good. It does matter if you use remote start or key it does
same thing.   the dealer ha checked van and can not find anything wrong.  Do you have
any ideas what to do.   thanks

Sounds like the starter is going. Especially, if you here just one click then nothing when it wont start.

I am having the same problem. I changed out everything you mentioned and got new ignition, connectors, and key fobs. The only other thing I know to do is purchase a new starter relay.

Okay I think I've solved the problem. I'm late for the party but after 12 years my wife's van started acting up and wouldn't start sometimes , intermediately. After replacing the starter , starter relay , battery terminals and battery we discovered the ground cable off the battery was not grounded good to the body of the van. Everybody needs to try this if you are having this problem. At the moment your car will not crank, have your jumper cables handy and take one jumper cable black or red and bolt it to the negative ground cable on the battery and ground the other end of the battery cable and ground it on a bolt on the motor , not on the body and see if it will start , if it does you got a bad ground which I did. I bought a second short cable and ran from the battery terminal to the motor and it solved the problem. There is a bolt at the front of the motor between the radiator fan on the front of the motor where the AC line bolts to the engine that's where I bolted the other end of my cable
