pt cruiser in shut down mode

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

replaced battery and engine will not start.  Was told car is in shutdown mode
and would have to reprogram key and disable infection where key goes.
Would cost me 450.00 dollars on 2008 pt cruiser. Please help?

Say what??? Infection // like a virus computer infection ... someone's extorting you for $450 bucks dude. Most road service insurance will tow your car to a reputable garage or even the dealer for free ... Try to get a fast tow truck so you can get away from whoever told you that ... as fast as you can. Car computers don't get virus because they are not on a network, I would even call the cops on someone trying to extort me ... has this person ever hit you with unusual problems before?

BTW ... your key can be reprogrammed in just a few minutes by yourself.... Note: You must have two valid keys to add a new key to the system. 1. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position for at least three seconds, but no longer than 15 seconds. Then, Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the first key. 2. Insert the second valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position within 15 seconds. After 10 seconds, a chime will sound. In addition, the Vehicle Security Light will begin to flash. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the second key. 3. Insert the new key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position.within 60 seconds. After 10 seconds, a single chime will sound. In addition, the Vehicle Security Light will stop flashing. To indicate that programming is complete, the Vehicle Security Light will turn on again for seconds and then turn off. The new key is now programmed. The Remote Keyless Entry transmitter will also be programmed during this procedure. Repeat this procedure to program up to eight keys.
