Fuse blows after steering box replacement

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the steering box in my 2002 Grand Marquis and now have two
problems. The steering is off center and a little tight. I am told an alignment will
fix this? Second is whenever I turn on the AC It instantly pops #16 fuse and I
lose the climate control and turn signals. Appreciate any insight.

You probably put the pitman arm on in the wrong position , I would think that there's a key way of some kind to prevent this , There may be a tension screw on the steering box that you can adjust . The AC circuit has a short some where , look for any obvious wiring problems .

That fuse also controls EVO steering, so I was wondering if related? Nothing else was touched and it didn't do this until the steering box change. Thanks

Yes, an alignment will fix the off center steering wheel. For the A/C fuse, make sure the wiring didn't get damaged or pinched between the new gear box and the frame of the vehicle. Hope that helps! Jim
