How can I get my key to go into the ignition?

I went out to start my car and the key will not go into the ignition.  It looks like there is a small piece of plastic that should move when you put the key in but it wont.  So I cant start my car.

Sounds like the ignition lock cylinder is broken or worn. I'd try using some powdered graphite and add some to the ignition lock/tumbler where the key gets inserted to free things up. You can get some at any auto parts store.
