No crank no start

Asked by Guru1NZJD Oct 03, 2019 at 07:18 PM about the 2005 Ford Expedition XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I put the key in the ignition and try to
start it it does not try to turn over or start so
I thought it was the starter so I bought a new
starter and put it on and it still won't start
had to turn the key on and then crawl under
the truck and put touch a screwdriver to the
two points on the solenoid on the starter to
get it to start I've check the relays and fuses
they seem to be fine when I turn the key on
there's a clicking noise that's coming from
the passenger side floorboard from the fuse
box battery is also good

Check the starter relay... swap it with another relay. And also check the wire going to the 10mm nut to see if it’s broken anywhere. It comes form the starter relay to the starter... when the relay is enguaged during cranking it should have 12v

Is there power at the relay, do u have a test light or meter. With key on there should be power on 2 legs of the relay. Pins. If you jump pin 30 and 87 the engine should crank and start. If it does not u need to check the starter relay fuse. The PIN numbers are listed on the bottom or side of the relay.
