Tried that with my wifes car. No luck. My first course of action is to replace coil packs that are out and put in a new battert.

I had it scanned the coil packs came up also the thermostat and egr sensor. Egr sensor has been replaced but has an exhaust leak. It was getting plenty of fuel but oil temp/oressure gauge wasnt reasing anything.

If you not getting enough fuel pressure. It will cause the engine random misfire. Let me guess a chain store scan your ECU then suggest you change the coil packs right? How many you change? If your engine is not running at the right RPM. The oil pressure will be low or not showing anything. Anyway, sound like you need a tech to check it out. It is more than you can handle if you don't have the correct scanner and tools.

It idled right but i had changed one coil pack which was enough to get home. Ive had the same issue with my wifes car replaced four of em and it never acted up again. Now i have seven more to replace on the expedition. Battery and coil packs are a starting point. My wifes father is a mechanic so ill probably have him help because he ia more familiar with fords than i am. Me personally im a chevy guy.

One last question what are the chances of the motor locking up. Had a buddy who owned a celica that died quietly at a stop sign was running quiet and smooth then it died quietly. Upon further examinatiin it was detwrmined that the motor locked up

Manually turn over the engine with the front crank bolt. It is a little hard to turn if you don't remove the spark plug. If you didn't overheat the engine and plenty of oil, the engine shouldn't lock up on you. Didn't see an oil pump failed more than 20 years on any domestic vehicle. Unless you try to clean the engine crankcase with a cleaner.
