347 Stroker

Asked by Keith Sep 15, 2018 at 04:15 AM about the 1970 Ford Mustang Coupe RWD

Question type: General

I just inherited a 1970 Grabber Orange Mustang. I live in
Oakland California and the streets here are anything but
“wide open”, but if some dude comes up with a gun, I’m
out!  In all seriousness this is my first real 525 HP
Supercharged 347 Stroker and I’m afraid I’m going to
mess it up before getting it into my mechanic and having
him literally teach me on better driving skills for this car.  I
rent a garage to keep it in, so I drive it every other day or
so. 10-15 miles at absolute most. So it’s not a DD but I do
want to drive it. I’m not big on drag racing, just having fun
on the streets of the bay are and the old shipyard right
next to the Bay Bridge. It’s like a giant tarmac. If you hit
something out there, I don’t know what to say. So please,
any advice will help, trust me. The fastest other car I’ve
ever driven was probably a 5.0 supercharged Cobra but it
was newer and tighter obviously. This is a whole other
beast. It’s apparently in immaculate condition with very
top of the line build. 14,000 in the engine. I will be
regularly taking it into my mechanic until I can learn
myself, so it will be kept up best as possible. Any advice,
Usual RPM, Temperature, blowing out the gas at stop
lights, should I worry about dropping that clutch or just
rely on the HP. I had a family I would usually ask any
questions but als, all passed away and left me a young
orphan. So my friends and the internet is now my family.
Sad but true. Thank you for your time and it’s much
appreciated.

A mechanic is not going to teach you how to drive a hot car. I would not be reving it up and dumping the clutch, just slip it a little and keep the racing to the race track. I think you have way too much car for your driving skills. Maybe you should sell it before you kill yourself of someone else?
