2007 Chevy Equinox EGR Valve

Asked by Guru7J96W Jun 23, 2020 at 08:31 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 2007 Chevy Equinox. Problem started
last year in June with engine codes P0171
and P0404 relating to EGR. Also, ABS light
came on,
Replaced EGR with a new GM EGR valve. In
October of last year the same codes came
back and EGR was replaced with a new one.
In June of this year same codes came back
and EGR was replaced for the third time. In
the full year, the car was driven only 5K miles.
Every time the EGR was replaced, the engin
codes got cleared.
Appreciate all you help with this bizarre issue.

Instead of replacing the EGR multiple times, I would be checking the wiring for the sensor. You said you only drive 5K, so I assume short trips. If the car does not get warmed up, the EGR might be building up with carbon. When you remove the valve, spray it down with throttle body cleaner to remove all the black carbon deposits and reinstall. The P0171 is a lean code, so check for vacuum leaks.
