64 1/2 mustang electrical problem

Asked by Guru9SRZSM Oct 14, 2021 at 12:21 PM about the 1964 Ford Mustang Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

64 1/2 mustang with 260 eng and generator.  Purchased used when spouse
was 16. Totally restored.  Owned it 49 years.  Recently, I have had my
generator and oil light stay on after I turned off my car.  Battery died last
night and would not take a jump.  Replaced battery due to bad cell.  Car
cranked up first time, but gen light stayed on even after turning off car and
removing key.   What could be the cause?

could be the ignition switch , or a problem with the generator . I think it's a crappy system compared to an alternator , that's what I hear on T.V. .

Yup, I vote for a bad voltage regulator. Also remember that this vehicle has an instrument cluster voltage regulator as well. That could be bad. Hope that helps! Jim
