what if the steering is still hard after you replace the steering pump in a 2004 acura mdx
You have air in the system. Fill it up with fluid and turn the wheels as far left as it goes and then as far right as it goes. Do this 10 times and then find a big parking lot where you can turn the wheels all the way left and do 360's then right. This will work the air out.
It could have air in the system. When you take the cap off the pump does the fluid look foamy? If so, you've got air in there. Are you using the correct power steering fluid? Check your owner's manual or contact your local Acura Dealer. Unless your Acura calls for transmission fluid do NOT put transmission fluid in the power steering system!! Check the steering linkage for binding and the pump drive belt for slipping. HTH. -Jim
