Chevy HHR 2005 manual. stuck in park. All shifling works. Brake lights working. ?
How can a manual trany have a park, and then be stuck there, but all the gears (shifting) work?
No matter if I shift into first or reverse the car just stays like the parking brake is on.
Is this a manual transmission or an automatic?
When I put the parking brake down the brake light goes off. But car acts like it is still on.
Manual stick shift.
Ok, so when you let out the clutch, will the rpm of the engine go down, like the clutch is grabbing? Can you feel the clutch grab.
Not sure what you mean. I put the car in first (with clutch as normal) then gas and it reves up like I have the parking brake on. The engine returns to idle normally. I can feel the car trying against something. Like if I tried to drive with parking break on.
Ok can you put the shifter in first gear and let the clutch out all the way without the motor dying?
Oh yay. The car is running and shifting and idling fine.
That is not what I asked. I am trying to understand you. When it is in gear and you let out the clutch without giving it any gas, will the motor die?
Or is it working now.
No the motor runs fine when I let of the gas. It was and is sounding normally.
I called feel the car trying to go forward and when I shift into reverse and press the gas I can feel the car trying to go backwards. It's like I forgot to put the parking brake down. But the parking brake goes up and down normally and the brake light on my console goes off and on when I move the parking brake like it should. I can see the reflection in the car behind me that my brake lights are working.
So when the car feels like it is trying to move, is the clutch all the way out.
Ok then, you have clutch problems, and the car is not going to move on its own. You will need a tow to a shop for repair.
Okay, AAA in the morning then. Thanks for your patience!
You are welcome.
