cooling fan only works when the a/c is on.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The fan only works when the a/c is on. I tested the relay in the beginning and it
was bad, the maxi-fuse was burnt out too, so I went ahead and replaced all that
and replaced the coolant temp sensor. Fan still only comes on when I am
running the a/c.

New relay, new fan, new temp sensor, new 30 amp maxi fuse. Come to find out from further digging, the Saturn series I own was designed to turn the fan on at the 3/4 mark. Thanks though, I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question.

GuruH8PDP, how did you find out that the series you own are designed to turn the fan on at the 3?4 mark? I have a 1993 where I'm having to manually turn the A/C on to get my fan to turn on so it doesn't get too hot. I have read the owners manual front and back, but see no mention of where the fan should turn on. I also cannot use an OBD1 or OBD2 on ti to get an actual temp reading, as the prior owner rewired the entire care and put an OBD2 hook up in the car, removing the OBD1, and when using an OBD2 reader, it cannot find the car.
