Serpentine Belt Guard/Shield
My Niece has a 2007 Saturn Outlook. In the rain she's
been having issues with the serpentine belt getting wet
and slipping. Of course the result is charging system
problems and power steering problems. She bought the
vehicle used. It was a one owner with a clean carfax and
low mileage (42,000). I looked for missing splash guards
but everything appears intact. Except for the fact that the
serpentine belt is exposed. It's clearly visible through the
wheel well and also from under the vehicle. I did notice
there is a bolt hole just to the left of the harmonic balancer
and two small drilled holes in the frame just ahead of the
lower control arm. Is there supposed to be a shield or
guard there to prevent the belt from getting wet and
slipping? I have no listing for one at my job (NAPA) and
neither does our local Chevrolet Dealer. Has anyone else
run into this? What can be done to fix this problem? For
now, as a "bandage", I showed her husband how to apply
belt dressing. Any help, suggestions, or a part number for
a guard or shield will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so
I'd worry more about the tensioner and bearing...belt stretches and tensioner does not apply enough tension....get a new belt...get a new tensioner and bearing....advise from judge_roy~
Hi Judge, that's exactly what she did about two months ago. Her service facility replaced both the tensioner assembly and belt at that point. Thanks for the response. -Jim
Is the wheel well splash guard there, isn't the belt shield integral to it?.....http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/shop_parts/splash_shield/saturn.html
http://www.partsgeek.com/mmparts/inner_fender_well/saturn/vue.html http://www.carid.com/2004-saturn/fenders/replace-fenders-2251119.html they have them listed....one of these
Those are all all 2007 Saturn front....I don't know which is for the Outlook
And please do pay attention to Tom...they are listed there
I found this one as for the 2007 Outlook front at the site Tom posted
Hi Guys, thanks SO much for the pictures and website info!! I didn't see anything damaged or missing when I looked at it. Now I have these great pictures to compare her Outlook to and determine what shield she needs. I'll definitely let you guys know how we make out with this. Thanks again. You guys are the BEST!! -Jim
Jim I certainly have learned a LOT from you...least I could do is try to help...
Hello, Original poster, did this fix work? My 07 Outlook XR is having the same problem. I took it to my mechanic today and the serpentine belt and tensioner is in great shape and was recently replaced, likely by the previous owner as we have only owned the car for about 6 months. Our mechanic things the belt is getting wet but can't figure out how. Thanks!
