Volvo: good or bad?

Asked by Oct 12, 2016 at 05:27 PM about the 2001 Volvo V70 T5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm currently looking into a used Volvo and was
wondering about how much maintenance you had
to do annually and how much it cost? I know they
have great safety ratings, but I've heard that they
can be money pits and need parts all the time.

You heard right. Parts are expensive, but if you can work on the car yourself, you can save some coin. I would estimate $2K avg. per year.

The parts are expensive, and labor costs through a dealership are high. However, I've owned two Volvos. My current one is a 1998 V70 t5 and it is approaching 200K miles. I love this car, bought it used from a friend in 1999.
