need a car key for 2000 Volvo S40

I am afraid the stealership (dealer) is right unless you have the valet keys then u could use them as an extra key. Otherwise the dealer might be the only way to go. Sorry :( Best of luck!!!

If you still need a key. we totaled our 2000 volvo s40 and have 2 extra keys. You just have to get it reprogramed for you car from the dealer. We only had the keys for about 3 months. I will sell it to you for $50. I have two sets of headlights also if you are interested.

You can purchase keys on ebay relatively cheap. The cost at the dealership is going to be for the programming. I believe all s40's have chipped keys. The cost to program a remote and key will run you around 1 hour of labor. My local Volvo dealer chargers $90/hour. Does your car use the "jack knife" style key/remote, or a regular style key?
