How does he know this? and does this answer your question? an automatic answers the question about a flashing arrow? almost curious enough to investigate, if I were to guess, the transmission is shifting, and the arrow lets you know that it is.

On automatic equipped Volvos, that arrow means the overdrive is turned off. On manual transmission models it is an upshift light, telling you to up shift now for maximum economy.
