Asked by Ggtr1249 May 06, 2019 at 09:37 PM about the 2005 Volkswagen Passat GLS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 vw passat and I have an issue where
that the battery would drain in 30 minutes iv
checked the trunk light the glove box light and
heated mirrors and I used a milimeter and the
battery has a constant 1.35 amp draw and I also
cheacked the altinator and it is fine but the gauge
cluster that shows the mileage and the clock is
constanly on but I never had an issue with it
drawing the battery. So I'm at a loss and not sure
what to do.

Check the alternator again. They sometimes develop a "leaky diode" which drains the battery when everything is off. Disconnect the output lead of the alternator and see if that 1.35 amp drain goes away.
