99 Tahoe battery problems

Asked by Ricky Sep 30, 2020 at 04:08 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe 2-Door RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The battery on the '99 Tahoe will act like it's dead
when I go to start it, when I turn it over it'll click
one time and all power is drained. I figured out all I
have to do is kind of hit the top of the battery and
power is restored. I thought it may have been a
bad connection on the battery but that's not the
problem. Are taking the truck to get the battery
tested and the alternator and both were good. And
sometimes when I'm driving at night my
headlights will cut off and I have to pull over turn
the truck off and back on for them to come back
on. Do you have any idea what the problem could
be?

This sounds like a bad battery connection to me. Have you cleaned the connections? Checked the wires going to the battery? Corrosion can eat them up inside the insulation and you can't see the damage.

The connections are clean. I have not checked the wires going to the battery, but I'll check them and see if there's any kind of corrosion within the insulation. Would a bad connection make my headlights cut off too?
