2000 new beetle, ball joints

My car began creaking badly this morning.  I got new front tires and was told my sounds are from the
ball joints.  Are these sealed? and what would it cost to replace if I needed to?

Maybe just control arm bushings. Get an estimate from a couple repair shops in your area.
