Rear Brakes / Calipers

Asked by Mike Nov 24, 2018 at 09:55 PM about the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta GL 2.0 Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello. I have a 2003 VW Jetta, 2.0 Engine, Manual. I wore my right rear
driver side break pad down so far that the caliper snapped.

I replaced both Rear Brake pads, Both Calipers on each side, refilled the
brake fluid because it leaked all out during the break, but I am still getting no
resistance on the brake when driving. I pump it several times and it feels like
its working and then straight to the floor it goes with no resistance and I can
just barely stop.

You need to bleed the brakes there is air in the system. Do this, fill the brake fluid reservoir then loosen the right rear bleeder screw wait until you get a really rapid drip or stream then tighten the bleeder and do the same for the left side keep watch on the reservoir it will go down fast. Sometimes it's necessary to jack the front of the car up to get the fluid to run, your vehicle is very dangerous right now and you should park it until it's fixed.
