What are some of the causes of rpms jumping up and down while the car is idling? And what is the most effective way to find a vacuum leak?

To find a vacuum leak look for cracked or loose hoses and get a can or carburetor cleaner. Spray it on suspected parts and listen for a change in engine idle speed.
