Question type: Maintenance & Repair

the car has 230000 miles on it. Mass air sensor keeps coming on every 225 miles or so. Had it changed once to get it through inspection and the last time got it through without changing it, but it was a pain. one mechanic said it was something with the supercharger as there was some oil in the air duct, but wouldn't say exactly what it might cost. This kind of scares me. I have already changed all the pumps and control arms. Is it time to trade it in?

Your car has a common issue with oil getting sucked up the intake from the oil pan through a tube and up the air tubing on the passenger side of the engine. This contaminates the MAF making your car run poorly. You can buy some CRC MAF cleaner at your local auto parts store. Here is a video showing exactly how to clean the MAF. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5Iw_nJ_EZ4......To keep the oil from getting up into your MAF, You can minimize the amount of oil sucked up by lowering the oil level from the recommended 6 qts to 5.5. Tom, They did clean it supposedly, and the problem persisted. The check engine light is still on, but I did get through inspection before it tripped on again. The car runs well too. I do get a hesitation when idling at times. I will try this. I am running synthetic oil in it and don't want to try anything else in that area.

A 12 year old car with 230,000 miles on it that's giving you repeated problems? If you can afford it, trade it in. HTH. -Jim
