A private has a 2001 Chevy impala for sale with 230000 miles for 1,000 dollars is that a fair price.is the miles too much.should I buy a car with that kind of miles on it or does the miles really matters
Tough to buy any decent car for $1000 that you can get a running/driving vehicle and maybe inspected for a couple months these days . No, the mileage is not important for that price, what is important is you will be putting money into it soon enough to keep it safely running. Make sure you have some extra cash on hand.
If it has the 3.8 liter be sure the upper and lower intake gaskets have been replaced. If it's the 3.4 liter ask if the head gaskets have been replaced. When you test drive it pay close attention to how the transmission performs. These were problematic as well. Mostly shift solenoid failures. I'm guessing, at this mileage these issues would have long since been taken care of. But it's always best to know what to look for and ask. HTH. -Jim
