Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My mother in law just bought a Honda CR-V
the suv.its sounds good and to my standards
which happens to be coming from a really
not pick kinda person let just say the first
time I seen the vehicle I loved it when I heard
it run I liked it more and after I rode in it I
offered her twice as much then what she
paid for the car.800 I tried to give her two
grand for it.my question is if it's not broke
why fix it.her mechanic who I'm not trusting
very much cause the last car he worked on
went down hill fast and she doesn't have any
more.she had it first owner over three
hundred thousand miles ran fine he did
something to the axle told her the
transmission was out and I think he forsed in
an axle messed up the splines and it slipped
and shattered inside the transmission.how
can u tell if it needs replaced please be
Pacific because I'm gonna show all your
answers to mother in law to let her no don't
let him mess with this car.thanks in advance

If the transmission was original and had 300K miles on it without any work, it was on borrowed time to begin with. Automatic transmission only usually last around 120K before needing attention. She definitely got her money's worth. If she doesn't trust her mechanic, I would find another. So what vehicle is your MIL going to use now that you are buying her Honda?
