What would cause a check engine light to come on after a distributor replacement?

Asked by Paul Jan 26, 2016 at 08:54 PM about the 1995 Ford F-250 2 Dr XL 4WD Extended Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After a short trip I stopped and after I tried to start my truck it cranked and cranked and would not start (no check engine light on). I had it towed to a mechanic and he replaced the distributor and it runs great (now with a check engine light on) and after a return visit to adjust the timing. Question: could he have shorted something out in the computer that he says needs to be replaced?

If the CEL is on then there should be a code stored. I would get the code read and post the result back here so we can try to help.

You could go to like Auto Zone and have it scanned for codes and post them back here. A check engine light will set a code.
