Why does my 1997 f250 460 check engine light come on and the engine dies?

Truck runs good when running but the check engine light comes on and the engine dies
occasionally and sometimes recovers when I switch between fuel tanks but other times
just dies and doesn't want to start for sometime. No idea why it decides to start or not
start. It's a 460 v8.

I would check fuel lines and also fuel pump or sending unit.
