Why is does my 2004 blazer 4.3l v6 keep getting hot?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Chevy Blazer 4.3l V6 4x4
that keeps getting hot. We bought it a
week prior to problems started. It
started out with the fan blade braking
(do to the bottom fan shroud rubbing
on it, prior to purchase). We replaced
the fan blade and added coolant
(because it got hot of course do to the
fan breaking) and found that radiator
got a hole in it when the blade came
apart. Replaced the radiator and drove
it until it got hot setting out front of my
wife's job. Replaced the thermostat
this time. Drove it the next day,
everything working fine until my son
sat in it at lunch and it got hot while
idoling. Replaced the fan clutch this
time and today he drove it to work and
it worked until setting at idol again. All
the hoses are good. What else could
be the problem?
FYI the front of the vehicle and hood
latch get very hot. So hot you can't
open the hood until it's cooled a little.
The vehicle doesn't over heat while
driving, just at idol.

Purge air out of the system and stop idling the car for long periods of time. I also suggest you try Water Wetter in the coolant.

What temp does it get to when overheating? Make sure your coolant mixture is 50/50 concentrate to water. If too much water, will get hotter than normal, and vice versa. Use a hydrometer ($6 tool at wally world) to check percentage. Want to be around -35 degrees for a 50/50 coolant to water mixture.
