car was running just fine, fluids topped off within 2 weeks, doing 55-60 mph
car starts to lose forward momentum and starts making loud grinding
noises, all 3 gears go out, D 1 2 , I coast to stop thinking whole trans. blew
up even though car was still running and had started right up. towed it
home this morning and went out to start it and grey smoke went
everywhere, and the transmission fluid was empty.

Sounds as if the tranny is shot...O see a rebuild in your future..
