I noticed I have a 3 inch hose attached to the water pump housing on my 93 Corolla 1.6 ltr eng. it is bulging, is this a sign of trouble

For sure, replace it before it bursts leaving you stranded. Check the condition of the other hoses as well, and now is a good time to flush and refill the cooling system.
