1994 Toyota Camry 4 Cylinder 4 door LE
So my car started to idle funny after I cleaned my
throttle body a few months ago I was cleaning it
just to clean it all of sudden it starts running funny
I changed intake boot cause it was cracked didn't
fix the problem. I changed my temperature coolant
sensor didn't fix it, I change my fuel pump and fuel
filter didn't fix it. I checked for all vacuum leaks no
cracked hoses etc. I can't find the VSV valve on my
model every 3 years Toyota changed the systems
around. I did a full time up wires cap etc. didn't do
anything. The car doesn't stall at all never has on
me but every time I come to a stop my Rpms drop
to 800 and the car starts surging. I've tried
everything and I can't find an answer???
Your VCV located on the rear of the engine, closest to the firewall, about mid-way down, under the exhaust manifold you can access to it through the passenger's side wheel. It's a little bit hard to replace but it can be done with little patience. True this are common problem that need to replace every 3 years. Check also the egr valve if it is dirty clean it. Hope this help.
thank you I couldn't find an answer no where to find the VSV valve . My gas mileage had been horrible and this problem has been causing me a nuisance and money.
While you are checking that EGR,,,,see if the FILTER under the CAP of the EGR MODULATOR is dirty.
Or....replace it and those old cracked and mushy Vacuum hoses.
see I changed the modulator and the hoses on that side didnt change anything. can I take the egr off without having to take the whole pipe off with it?
Bigman90, if you had a bad VSV you should have been getting an error code PO401. Was your check engine light ever on during your recent symptoms?
no check engine light at all. Heard it could possible be my brake booster too. It only happens when I'm coming to a stop that my car feels like its gonna shut off and during idle the rpms are real low like 800 it bounces up and down but when i stop itll drop lower and come back up to 800. idk what else to do.
Usually after changing out the ECT, the problem is gone. I noticed you said the issue started after cleaning the throttle body. Did you do a complete tear down or just spray cleaner into it? If you just sprayed cleaner into it, you may have dislodged some debris and it could have traveled into your Idle Air Control valve. A clogged IAC will cause this exact condition.
Bigman....what ever happened with this vehicle?
I'm going to take off IAC tomorrow morning I was working all week didn't have time at all ima do that and change spark plug wires too
