Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Now i need to get to the root of my leaking power steering. Now i hope you
can kind of pin point the problem without me spending alot of money. As far
as my steering its easy and smooth but when the fluid get low it makes a
slight winding sound and the steering wheel gets just a little stiff. It will stay
topped off for bout two weeks before topping it off again.Thats all its
doing. So can you figure out if its the pump itself or leaking hose? What all
shall i change? Is it ok to use my old pulley on the new pump?

Get a oil dye kit from a parts store, then drive it a few days, using the black light in the kit look for the glow that will show where the leak is, the n replace what is leaking. Yes you can use the stock pulley if it isn’t damaged.

Leaks of any kind can be tricky because they can run down the hose, a crossmember, or just about anything, before dripping on the ground. Clean the hoses, pump area, etc. as best as you can. Then look to see what's wet again in a day or two. You can also put a clean piece of cardboard under the vehicle to see where it's dripping and work back from there. Jim
