Can I swap-out a 1997 4Runner Limited stereo and amp with a 2001 4 Runner Limited Stereo and amp
I have 1997 4Runner Limited stereo/amp system which doesn't light-up anymore (can't see anything at night). A 2001 4 Runner Limited Stereo and amp made itself available. Would like to know if I can simply exchange stereo or stereo and amp. Do harnesses fit?
I believe you should be able to swap out the stereo. A conversion harness should be available on the aftermarket. I don't think you would need to swap out the amps but I am a little rusty on the car audio side of things.
The bulbs are replaceable in the stereo, just go slow and easy, and take your time alot less painful than swaping modifying and all that jazz.
Try united radio they schould know
I cant say if a 1997 and 2001 stereo systems are the same, but I can say that 1997, the stereo amplifier is simply inline with the radio harness. The wiring harness from the radio simply plugged into the amplifier and then the amplifier plugged into the rest of the wiring harness. The amplifier went bad on my 4runner and the plugs were the same so I unplugged the amp, and the radio plugged into the car wiring harness and the radio worked just fine!!
