Question type: Maintenance & Repair

THE ENGINE REPAIR LIGHT IS ON AND WE HAVE REPLACED THE AIR FILTER AND PUT SOMETHING AUTO ZONE RECOMMENDED IN THE GAS TANK.  SOMEONE SUGGESTED REPLACING THE OXYGEN SENSOR.  WHAT IS THE COST OF THIS REPAIR APPROXIMATELY?

The cost of the sensor itself will be between 70-110 dollars worst case scenario although Ive seen them cheaper online. If you choose to install the o2 sensor yourself then obviously your only expense is the cost of the part. I would highly recommend installing the 02 sensor yourself as it requires little knowledge about the car and takes a total of 5-10 minutes to install. If you choose to have a shop fix it you can expect to pay 100 for the part there plus an extra 100 in labor for a total expense of 200. FYI many auto parts stores have the technology to run a diagnostic on your check engine light and tell you exactly why it is turning on. Quite a few of them will do this diagnostic for free. I would recommend calling a couple big name autoparts stores in the area to see if they will do this for you, that way you can confirm whats wrong and pick up the part in one stop.

extremely unintelligent to attempt fixing a code with 0 knowledge of why it is there and what the code means. i got a code reader for 20 bucks and it works great. shops check codes for free. both options are better than throwing money at your car at random lol
