Lack of compression on one cylinder could be a bad piston (major) or just a stuck valve/broken spring (minor). Try to get a more accurate diagnosis before buying something expensive like an engine. Only an real engine shop will tackle with "tear down" engine repairs if it's only a valve.
Thank you, Hornet - will do. Could driving into a major pothole cause a broken spring? That's when the shuddering started.

Major pothole could break a suspension spring but not a valve spring. When I said "spring" I was thinking engine valve spring. Sorry. Okay, now if that shuddering started after hitting a pothole, you may want the car to be checked for engine damage from underneath like a damaged engine oil pan and anything else damaged. You might be able to make an insurance claim if you car crashed into unrepaired/unmarked road hazard.
That's exactly the point, as car was driving fine before I hit the pothole and the cabrio is low. I definitely heard it hit metal. Really helpful. Thank you!!
