Car is jerking when it starts

Asked by Pontiac0606 Jun 14, 2018 at 12:34 PM about the 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car has started to act strange the last few days. When I
start it the engine will start jerking in park and will continue
to jerk when I put it in reverse and then drive, until I get to
about 25-30mph it will stop jerking and won't do it anymore
till I shut my car off and start it again. Any ideas with what
may be wrong?

Sounds like a ignition/detonation problem - one or more cylinders not firing or sporadically firing. That would cause a rough idle that would slowly be overcome with increased speed since the engine would be running at a higher RPM when the misfires would not be as prominent (it would seem smoother but the problem would still be happening).
