Asked by Apr 02, 2016 at 11:15 AM about the 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix 4 Dr GT Sedan

Question type: General

1998 Pont GPrix GT 3800 3.8 Engine. After the car warms 10-15mins and
in traffic Itleing, my L.O.P light began flickering hen remain steady.
Immediately when accelerating it goes off. Car seem to run fine except 4-
this light. I did a recent oil change filter and all, i also use (GUNK 5-min prep
time poured in with the dirty oil for extra cleaning) just before the Oil change
that day. I Dumped and refiled engine with the new oil. The Car ran fine 4-
about a 15 days no problem, now this light comes on. Afraid to operate now
more than a couple of miles do to light and don't wanna mess anything up
with the Engine without knowing WHAT COULD B GOING ON?

Oil pumps rarely, if ever fail. It's most likely the sending unit that monitors the oil pressure. Change that before you do anything else. As long as the engine has oil in it and is not making any tell tale clattering sounds you can be confident it is oiling just fine and is safe to drive.
