My AC doesn't work and I was told
there's a little black box under the dash
that won't open and close what is it
called

Its simply referred to as the blower door. It changes the air flow in the dash, to the defrost, to the foot setting. It also closes off outside air for recirculation in particular to the A/C system. If its damaged, its an easy fix if you have the tools. You really have to get up under the dash or in the back of the engine compartment to get at it! Best of luck.

Blend door actuator. Replacing it requires nearly removing the entire dash. The part is located behind the glove box.
